This is my final missive as President as I prepare to hand over my chain of office. It is a busy month arranging and attending many events involving a lot of eating - perhaps I might have to go on a diet!!
It has been a privilege to be President of such a wonderful club with all members active in all our fundraising efforts. It has not been an easy year as my employers finally caught up with me and I am grateful for all the help and understanding members have shown me through the year. I would wish Carol the best of luck but she does not need it as she will be a wonderful President.
May 2009
May already and we have had a truly great weekend with our twin club from
I am in the last few months of my presidency and what a busy one it will be. The Royal Windsor Horse Show and Tattoo, to name just two of the events. I have no doubts that all will go well. A great big thank you to Chris Davies for all his hard work in this direction.
April 2009
We have now all returned from our small excursion to our District Conference and despite my ugly mug appearing on the newsletter we were awarded the best newsletter in the District. My personal thanks go to our editor Kathryn Pike who richly deserves the award in no small measure.
We are now looking forward to our visit from our Goslar twinned club and are busy organising the various trips to keep them busy.
March 2009
Here we are in March and about to celebrate St David's Day. Well, I am Welsh and consider that with a song in my heart and poetry in my soul what else can you expect. You can take the man out of Wales but you cannot take the Wales out of the man!
We have just had our Eggheads Quiz a most enjoyable evening well organised by David and Kathryn.
We also enter a new era with David Pike as our secretary following Martyn's transfer to the Lunchtime club. I wish both if them well in all their endeavours.
February 2009
February already! I was so glad that I was able to attend our Burns supper evening where we had a piper pipe in (and out!) the Haggis. All who attended had a great evening.
We have been busy organising our upcoming events, including the visit from our twin club in Goslar. We hope with the assistance of the international committee and John Fido, who has used his contacts to great effect, that we will be able to give them a great time.
January 2009
Firstly may I wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope it will also be prosperous, however during the credit crunch this may not happen.
We have traversed December with great success with the Christmas music, the Christmas lighting up of Eton and Windsor together with the reindeer parade in Windsor to which thousands of people attended.
Our Flag Day collection for Daisy's Dream was a great advert for the Club and Rotary in general. My thanks go all our members who organised and took part in these events.
December 2008
What a busy month once more!
We attended the lights switch-on in Eton during some inclement weather, which thankfully relented at the last moment so the children were able to parade in the dry. The Windsor lights switch-on was also a wonderful event. The excitement of the children marching behind the band made for a tremendous evening.
Our Christmas dinner is coming up and we will have a wonderful evening with some surprises in store. I hope everyone will enjoy the Christmas season and that everyone has a very Merry Christmas despite the credit crunch.
November 2008
One of our main events, the Gala, has now finished and was a great success. It is good that the hard work and dedication of our members and particularly the gala committee have been rewarded with such great success. The Pirates of Penzance was performed wonderfully by the Operatic Society.
We now greet November with another of our events, the fireworks display at Windsor Racecourse. This year there are many other fireworks displays so we will face competition. However, I think it will go well.
It is also Remembrance Sunday this month, an important date as far as I am concerned and I look forward to laying a wreath on behalf of our club. We should always remember those that give up their lives to ensure our freedom.
October 2008
October already — I have been involved deeply in work for my employers and it does not seem to be getting any easier.
This month we are having our Gala event at the Farrer Theatre in Eton College. It appears to be going well which is good news for my chosen charities, the local societies of Mencap.
I am having a short break to recharge the batteries to ensure our run in to Christmas is as smooth as possible as we will be involved in a few community events in this period.
September 2008
Again, a busy time with a club visit from Heston and Isleworth who were treated to a very informative talk given by Al Gore on British Transport Police.
The President's at Home was a great success as the weather was not totally unkind but precautions were taken just in case. The recycling men had great problems in lifting the box with the empty bottles in. I have a feeling that they think we are all alcoholics in this household.
The Operatic Gala is fast approaching and we look forward to what should be an enjoyable and hopefully well supported evening.
August 2008 - Busy start to a busy year
Who said being President of Windsor St George was easy?! I thought I was busy when I was Mayor but that was nothing compared to President. I am enjoying it though and would enjoy it more if WORK did not get in the way.
July was especially busy with the Rivertime Boat Trust launch, the Past Presidents lunch organised by Richard and Marilyn Cox and a lunch with Jean and David Davies, as Jean is president of Inner Wheel. I am glad I did not weigh myself at the start of this year and hope to remain at a comfortable weight!
We are lucky to be a club with many hard working people from across the Thames Valley. Let us "enjoy" ourselves this year and work together to build on the successes of the last 25 years.
July 2008 - Changing the Guard
Following an amazing year under President Judith, July sees the Presidential Gong handed over to our incoming president Emrys Richards. Emrys will be able assisted this year by Carol Buckland, his Vice President and Kathryn Pike as Junior Vice. We wish Emrys all the best for the coming year and look forward to what he and his committees have in store.
